Today Year 1 enjoyed a class outing to the Museum of Science and Technology. We saw some interesting household items from the past and talked about how life must have been different in times gone by. We saw some old toys and thought about how they compare with toys we have today. Then everyone enjoyed playing in the Children’s Science Centre. Our favourite part was the room which fools gravity and makes it really difficult to balance.
For Thanksgiving we decided to make turkey handprints. We talked about why we celebrate Thanksgiving and what we were thankful for.
We need to realise that all families are different and we all have different traditions that we do during Thanksgiving. Many of our families come from different parts of the world and have many languages to share. We are all unique families and that should be shared. We can be thankful for people in our families, for good health, for shelter, and for good food.
For Remembrance Day we decided to make poppies. We painted fields of poppies using our thumb and finger prints. We talked about why we wear poppies and the children knew it was so we could remember those who died in the war.
